Lost in translation: a home of your ownWatch Clive's story

South

Welcome to our South region.

We support over 150 people with learning difficulties throughout Hampshire, Surrey and Southampton. Our purpose is to help the people we support to live the lives they want. We understand that different people have different needs and want different things. So we try to provide really 'person centred' services to help people achieve the outcomes they want, and to create opportunities for them to be active citizens within their own community.

What we do
We provide a variety of support services in our region. These include:

  • registered care homes
  • group living services, for people living in shared housing
  • supported living services, where we support people that live alone (or with a husband/wife/partner that they have actively chosen to live with) in their own home.
  • floating support services

We are also working with our partners towards providing services for young people who are in transition.

How we work
We believe that the people we support should have control over services and we work with our partners to find creative ways of making this happen.

We also think people should have a say in how the region and organisation are managed. So we hold regular forums with the people we support, staff, relatives and carers to discuss issues that are important to them.

We focus on, and measure our success by, achieving outcomes for the people we support. We have a group of staff, people we support and other stakeholders who meet regularly to review our progress towards real person centredness.
The group assists our progress by holding themed workshops for developing ideas and good practice.

We're also working on the following initiatives:

  • developing meaningful awareness and responses to issues of diversity
  • being creative in the use of alternative communication tools
  • the development of assistive technology to enhance independence

What we can do for you
If you have a learning difficulty:

  • we will support you to develop a 'person centred' plan, which will be all about your needs and your dreams.
  • we can support you in your home, or out and about in your community.
  • we'll support you to make friends and have relationships.
  • we can support you to get a job if you want one.
  • we'll listen to you and help you to be more independent.
  • we'll help you to live the life you want.

If you're a purchaser:

  • we can offer cost-effective and creative support packages.
  • we'll work in partnership with you.

If you are a relative of a person we support:

  • we will involve you in developing your relative's support package and person centred plan.
  • we'll keep you informed about what we're doing.

If you want to work for us:

  • you'll share our values and beliefs. We'll offer you training and a competitive salary package, as well as the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support.
