Lost in Transition? How to find your way through...

Birmingham Hippodrome, 25th April 2007

On 25th April, we held our first national conference. Our aim for 'Lost in transition? How to find your way through' was to provide parents and professionals with information and guidance about how to make their way through the transitions 'minefield'. Over 130 delegates, including parents, made the journey to the Birmingham Hippodrome to hear speeches and participate in workshops run by key transitions professionals, including Linda Jordan (Valuing people), Nic Rowland Crosby (Paradigm) and Bridget Fisher (ARC).

Steve Inch at our first transitions conference We began the day with an introduction to our transition service by our Transition Development Manager Kate Jackson, and by premiering our DVD, which we've made with parents and young people in mind (we wanted to show how, at Dimensions, we believe it is possible for young people to plan for their lives and have fun at the same time!)

The day also featured keynote speeches from Lucia Winters, from the Transition Information Network, and Maurice Harker, a lead advisor from Housing Options who talked about his experiences as the father of a son with autism who is going through transition at the moment.

We also launched our transitions report (for parents and professionals who want an excellent overview of transitions in the sector to date) and transitions good practice guide written specifically for parents.
